Initial Suggestion For the "GameJam"
Code Name "King of the Hat"
Premise: 4 players compete with each other in a limited area (see super mario smash) in order to take out each other, with the main idea being that hats represent health and ability(a red wizard hat might make you throw fireballs for instance) , hats can be stacked on the player to a max of 4 and only hits against the hats will make them fall off with a hit to the lowest hat making you lose them all, a hit against a player will only push them back), when a player has lost all of their hats they got a limited amount of time to regain a hat or lose.

that sounds like a fine idea, I think we are going to be the programmers for this one so you decide what version of unity you want to work with and I'll install it and get rereshed
we will need voice coms set up for it beforehand, I think someone said teamspeak in the other thread. Can someone set up a room and provide some boomer-level instructions so that those of us (me) who havent used it in forever can get back on it?
I think a trello board would be adequate as a "design doc"
I would like to add a scope limit that the opponents are all AI and we save mutliplayer for the "sequel"

Do we have a Matrix room already? If so share the ID that will be a start. I don't know much about Teamspeak, but is my understanding we need to pay them for a server and/or host it somewhere? I'll try to screw around with setting up a server, but I have never done it before. So, if someone knows what they are doing that might be better.
Unity is similar to XNA, right? I have done some XNA with C#. Never tried Unity as I haven't even attempted to make a game in 5 years or so.

@acp Alright, sound like a fair trade of to get NPC instead of real people @ccp To my knowledge we do not have a matrix room already, That should be step one. Regarding unity and XNA they are sort similar (was ages ago since did anything with it, think xna was more of framework and less of a engine) but don't worry if you coded in XNA unity will be easy to pick up. Regarding Teamspeak server, yes there is no free lunch there :/, They got a limited 32 spot lic which is free but then we need to find the hardware to host it somewhere, I could try and scrounge up a old Pi3 and see if it is good enough to host, (just beware that I am not used to setting up teamspeak servers).
EDIT: Unity version 2019.4.21f1(LTS) will work fine and should be stable.

I'll get TeamSpeak server set up, I'm actually half way through it. Already have it working just need to figure out some things. It was actually really easy.
Will share server info once it's done.

I have TeamSpeak server working. I will PM both of you the server info. I don't mind if you share with others on here, as it's not a unique password but uses some sort of unique ID to manage users.
As far as setting up, go download the client from teamspeak.com. You don't have to set up any accounts unless you want to. To connect, go to the client, click Connections menu, enter server address and password I give you and whatever nickname you want to be identified by. I have no idea how to set up the voice or any of the fancy client features, someone else will have to help or figure that out. I'm much more of a text chatter than a voice user. It has text chat as well, but it's crude and Matrix will be way better for that.
For transparency sake, this is running on my own cloud VPS. I can see the users IPs, and I'm not sure there's any way to stop that. If you're on a VPN it will be your VPN's IP. The only other thing that shows up is the nickname you picked for yourself and a unique ID generated by the system to identify you. I suppose if I really felt bored I could go trap voice packets and listen in, but well it would be easier to just join whatever room and listen. I don't see e-mail addresses, names, or anything like that and you don't provide any of that to use it.
I don't use much of the VPS's resources as it is, so as long as I'm not hitting a bandwidth cap (voice traffic shouldn't even come close) then I'll keep it going.

Food for thought: There's no shame in cloning an existing game. People do it all the time and it's and easy way to ensure everyone has a somewhat unified idea of what the final output should be. And hey - clones can still add new things to the formula.
Some, possible games to clone, chosen for their relative simplicity in both coding and the required art assets to make them work;
Joust
Mario Party Poy Poy 2 Smash Bros
Sky Rogue Time Crisis
Truck Dismount
